Born on 16th October 1997 In Japan, Naomi Osaka is of mixed race. Her mother, Tamako Osaka, is from Nemuro, Hokkaido, Japan, whereas Leonard Francois is from Jacmel, Haiti. Naomi has an older sister, Mari, who is also a former professional tennis player. Naomi’s parents choose to give their kids the mother’s surname because of practical reasons. When Naomi was three years old, her family moved from Japan to New York to live with her father. Naomi’s father was heavily inspired by Richard Williams, who trained his daughters to become the world’s most successful tennis players.
In 2006, Naomi’s family moved to Florida to get better training for tennis. Initially, Naomi and her sister used to practice in the Pembroke Pines Public court during the day. They were given their primary education at home as they are homeschooled at night. When she got a little older, she began to work with Patrick Trauma at the ISP academy. In 2004 she started training at Harold Solomon Tennis Academy, and later she trained at Pro world Tennis Academy.

Although Naomi Osaka was raised and trained in the United States, her parents decided to play tennis for Japan professionally. Naomi’s mother told the world that both sisters are very well aware of Japanese culture in an interview. They were born in Japan and wanted to represent Japan in international games. She also added that this decision was not taken because of any financial constraints. However, she said that the lack of interest from the USTA ( United States Tennis Association) could be a reason to choose Japan over America for tennis representation.
From 2011 to 2015, Naomi Osaka played various ITF Junior Circuit and the Premier International Junior Tour. Naomi played her first qualifying match on her birthday. She was fourteen years old.
At the end of 2015, she had a WTA ranking of 144 when she was 16. In 2016 she made an entry in the top 50 in the WTA ranking for the first time. Naomi also won the WTA Newcomer of the year award in 2016.
2018 was a breakthrough year for Naomi. She got the best Ranking of her career that year. She was ranked 4 in the world. She finished that year as a WTA tour leader and won prize money of almost $6.4 million.
In the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Naomi Osaka became the first tennis player to light the Olympic cauldron during the opening ceremony. Osaka was ranked 2nd in the Tokyo Olympic tennis match. Naomi Osaka was in Times magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world list in 2019 and 2020.

Osaka has a very reserved and shy nature. Her former coach Sascha Bajin showed a very silent personality in her early years on the WTA tours. In an interview, the former coach said, ” I thought she is a little bit more of a diva because she doesn’t talk much, she doesn’t look at someone’s eyes, but that’s because she was always so shy.” During an event in 2018, when she had to give a victory acceptance speech because she won the 2018 Indian Well Open, she became so shy that her nervousness was visible on her face.
She forgot the names of people and brands that she had to thank, but afterward, she balanced herself and humorously said, “This is probably going to be the worst acceptance speech of all time.” She has also been very vocal about the social issues that are happening around the world.
