Michael was born on the 21st of November, in the year 1971, in Houston. He has five siblings and is the youngest among all of them. His parents are Louise Strahan, a coach of basketball, and Gene Willie Strahan, an ex-army Major and a boxer. His uncle is Art Strahan, a retired NFL defensive lineman. After moving to Mannheim, Germany, he started his high school there at Westbury High School. He did not take up football until his last year at his high school.
Before starting at his new high school, his father sent him to live with his uncle. After which, Strahan played a season of football that earned him a scholarship from Texas Southern University. He then went back to his high school in Germany to graduate.

After graduating from Texas Southern University in 1993, Strahan got married to his first wife, Wanda Hutchins. They stayed together for four years. Wanda was a self-made businesswoman. After the divorce from his first wife, he married his second wife, Jean Muggli, in the year 1999 after meeting her at a spa.
