John C. Reilly Biography & Wiki

John C. Reilly, one of the screen’s most versatile and woefully underappreciated character actors, has appeared in a series of films that are only related by their complete lack of similarity. To date, director Paul Thomas Anderson has used him most wisely, casting him in Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, and Magnolia.

Reilly, who was born in Chicago on May 24, 1965, made his film debut in 1989 when he appeared in Casualties of War and We’re No Angels, both of which starred Sean Penn and received mixed reviews.

Reilly then spent the early 1990s appearing in films of all genres, from Tom Cruise’s testosterone extravaganza Days of Thunder (1990) to Woody Allen’s Shadows and Fog (1992) to What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? (1993). Because of his unglamorous appearance, Reilly also played the obligatory role of a backwoods psycho, appearing alongside Kevin Bacon in The River Wild (1994) for just long enough to freak out Meryl Streep and her family.

In September, Reilly starred alongside Sean Penn as an Irish hoodlum named Stevie McGuire in the crime film the State of Grace; Reilly had previously starred alongside Penn as a monk in the comedy We’re No Angels (1989).
